William “Bill” Dietrich is a principal of Conley Rose, P.C.. Bill serves as co-chairman of the Electrical Practice group and as the corporate secretary at Conley Rose. Bill has degrees in both Electrical and Civil (Structural) Engineering, and has over 20 years of experience in patent prosecution in the fields of telecommunications systems, packet routing, semiconductor processing and packaging, and optical networks.
Bill’s practice is particularly focused on prosecuting standard essential patents for video coding. Bill has prepared hundreds of original U.S. non-provisional/PCT applications for video coding technologies including high level syntax, bitstream construction, picture partitioning, inter and intra prediction, image filtering, transforms, omni-directional/three dimensional (3D) video, virtual reality, and point cloud coding. Example standards include Versatile Video Coding /H.266, Visual Volumetric Video based coding (V3C) & Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC), Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over http (DASH), High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)/H.265, and various other MPEG standards.
Bill also dedicates a significant portion of his practice to trademark preparation, prosecution, and counseling. Bill has filed hundreds of trademark applications, and is listed as attorney of record on more than a hundred active trademark registrations.
Outside of work, Bill enjoys traveling with his family. Bill is an avid scuba diver and amateur underwater photographer.
