Jim Ruland assists clients in a variety of areas of intellectual property law and practice, advising clients on patent, trademark and copyright protection.  His representation includes start-up companies and Fortune 100 companies.  Mr. Ruland offers dedicated personal service using cutting edge ideas and systems to represent clients in obtaining valuable intellectual property assets in a cost-effective manner.

Mr. Ruland prepares and prosecutes patent applications in mechanical, software, and chemical technologies.  These technologies include, but are not limited to, petro-chemical processing and apparatuses, milling machines, and pharmaceuticals.  Prior to law school, Jim was a process engineer at an Exxon Mobil Corp. linear paraffins unit in Baytown, Texas.  His mark and copyright experience has included preparing and registering mark and copyright applications for individual or business entities.  In addition, Jim provides counseling, such as preparing non-infringement opinions, invalidity opinion letters, and intellectual property agreements, as well as the development of intellectual property strategies to minimize infringement liability and identify opportunities for protection.
