Mr. Rodolph practices in all aspects of intellectual property, with a specialization in patent law. His patent practice expertise includes domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, patentability studies, design-around studies, non-infringement opinions, invalidity opinions, licensing agreements, and client counseling related to patent issues. Mr. Rodolph frequently handles high-value patent applications with complex prosecution issues. These include applications undergoing accelerated examination, as well as applications for inventions related to high-value products and inventions that have been adopted by standards-setting organizations. His trademark practice focuses on trademark selection, prosecution, and use of trademarks. Mr. Rodolph has helped resolve many intellectual property disputes for his clients, and has experience in patent, trade dress, and commercial litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rodolph developed significant experience at another intellectual property law firm as a technical writer, patent agent, and attorney.
Mr. Rodolph has experience in a diverse group of technologies including chemical, electrical and mechanical inventions. His chemical practice experience includes technologies such as polymer compositions, catalysts, and processing, petrochemical production, hydrocarbon exploration, production, and refining, air separation processes, commercial food processing, and steel refining and processing. Mr. Rodolph’s electrical and optical practice experience includes technologies such as Ethernet, multiprotocol label switching, and Internet Protocol networks, wavelength division multiplexed networks, wavelength switched optical networks, passive optical networks, digital subscriber lines, multimedia technologies, Internet mobility, cloud computing, content oriented networks, and computer software. His mechanical practice experience includes technologies such as helicopter and tilt-wing aircraft rotor systems, aircraft propulsion systems, aircraft thermal signature reduction systems, vibration dampening systems, oilfield downhole tools, medical devices, and various other electromechanical devices.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Rodolph was an engineer with Linde AG, an engineering firm specializing in the design, manufacture, and installation of industrial chemical processing and air separation plants. While with Linde, he was involved with the manufacture and design modification of a broad range of processing facilities, including air separation, hydrogen production, sulfur recovery, natural gas liquid recovery, and cyclohexane production plants, as well as numerous refinery upgrades and modifications. He proposed, designed, and managed construction, start-up, and operation of a large-scale radiographic film processing and evaluation center. Mr. Rodolph was also responsible for maintaining the quality of the company’s manufacturing operations, overseeing outside vendor quality, and ensuring company compliance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, International Organization for Standardization, and customer specifications.
Mr. Rodolph holds a commercial pilot certificate for single and multiengine airplanes, and is a Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument, and Multi-Engine Instructor. He is instrument rated and enjoys providing compassion flights for charitable organizations, such as Pilots-N-Paws and Angel Flight.
