I serve as President of Conley Rose, P.C., an intellectual property-only law firm with offices in Plano and Houston, Texas. My practice involves a significant amount of work representing a wide range of companies, from start-ups to Fortune 100 entities, as well as universities and individuals. In addition to direct representation, I work with patent, trademark, and other attorneys based all over the world to represent their clients before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and elsewhere on U.S. intellectual property (IP) issues. I have also served as an outsourced, in-house IP counsel on retainer for listed and publicly held clients as well as for emerging company clients.
For over 20 years, I have been active in the leadership of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). In addition to a term on the Board of Directors, I have started and/or led numerous committees and am currently Chair of the Committee on Legislation. At my alma mater, I am currently Chair of the Industry Advisory Council to the Mechanical Engineering Department of Texas A&M University. In my community, I volunteer as President of Pegasus Theatre, a nonprofit professional theatre that has served the Dallas community for over 35 years.
My practice revolves around: the preparation, prosecution, and protection of U.S. and foreign patent and trademark applications; the development of IP strategies and portfolio construction and management in alignment with the strategies; the negotiation of licenses and IP terms in other agreements; the preparation of legal opinions; and, the resolution of problems around IP disputes, potential IP litigation, and active lawsuits.
My industry experience spans from data streams to oil and gas streams. I have extensive experience in telecommunications and software (including artificial intelligence and machine learning implementations) across a multitude of industries including cybersecurity, data processing and analysis, and health care; as well as in oil and gas and related ancillary industries and other industries leveraging the mechanical arts.
I am often invited to speak, both in the U.S. and abroad, on a variety of IP topics, frequently focusing on practical suggestions in drafting and prosecuting for software and patent eligibility and in improving patent prosecution efficiency, the latter with particular emphasis on USPTO Examiner interviews.
Most importantly, I am the proud father of 23-year-old triplet daughters (two graduated from Texas A&M (and now in medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and getting a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Northern Illinois University) and one graduated from Syracuse (and now getting a Masters in Medicolegal Death Investigation at Syracuse) and an 20-year old son (who is a junior at Texas A&M currently headed towards Ag Manufacturing), a multifaceted role calling for skills in soccer coaching, choir, orchestra, and theater booster-clubbing, long and short distance moving, grand-dog and grand-cat sitting, mediation, arbitration, and general cat herding, among others.
